Yusoff & Sharifah’s Surprise Engagement Party

This is the sweestest proposal shoot I had ever done. Everything was so carefully planned and beautiful. Seriously, I wanted to cry sometime during the shoot itself.

It was Sharifah’s birthday and Yusoff secretly booked a yacht, invited her friends along and even hired a wedding gown for her. We got her to close her eyes while Yusoff walked her to the yacht.

The sun although set a wee bit early, but the night was still magical enough.
Yusoff proposed to Sharifah just as the fireworks well off.. with 99Roses nonetheless!!

Like a real-life fairytale lah!!

Ok abit from my side would be, it’s my first time up on a private yacht, I was uber excitied and nervous at the same time. I wont lie and say it’s a breeze to shoot (although it was very windy on board).. The yacht was bummy, wet and slippery and I had to perform.. Well, at the very least, Thanks the gods I am not sea-sick-prone.. But luckily for me, Both Sharifah and Yusoff were extremely not-camera-shy! So I can pretty much say we Rocked the Shoot.

Now for photos….

Jinny & Terence – A projection of Dream

I held out my hand for him. He lowered his head and walked towards me slowly.

I put my hand on his nose, so soft and velvet, while he muzzles me gently.

Murphy is a 14years old horse, a bit mid-age actually. But nonetheless, magnificent.

I gestured for Terence to take the leash and he did.. not before holding out a cupcake on his hand for Murphy.
Standing under the warm golden sun, I look on as they stood, arm in arm and patted Murphy on the nose..
What a beautiful scene..

I once read this quote – A horse is the projection of peoples’ dreams about themselves – strong, powerful, beautiful.” So. True.

Jinny and Terence relationship is Strong, Beautiful and Powerful.. Something most can only Dream about. I know, cause I saw it.

(pss, you might be interested to know there’s a mixture of digital and film in this series. Some pictures are from the Recesky I fixed afew weeks back.)

(Are you looking for the perfect gift? Then yes! This vouchers are The Gift to give to your love ones.. blah blah blah)

Nope, Im not going to start by yakking off these cheesy lines. Oh or did I just.

I built a camera~

– the Recesky Twin lens Reflex Camera

So a few weeks ago, I had this Brilliant idea to build a camera from scratch~ I happily bought this set and eagerly start fixing it.

I got stuck during the shutter part and nearly stomped it to TINY bits. (haha!) Luckily Alvin helped fix up the tiny buggers for me and heyhey! The camera is finally done up!!

Such a great sense of awesome…ness. the camera really feel like Mine (like my Kid or something. I know, crazy), cause I fixed it up from tiny parts. Woohoo.  ♥

It comes in a pretty box like this..

The instructions.. Yes I can read Chinese.. and nope it wasnt all that diffcult.

the neatly tucked up parts…

fixing them.. the back cover, the middle part with shutter and the right side..

The part on the right is where the Rewind button (of the film) is.

and here’s the final product in its full glory! ♥!

(before you think im such smartypants, its a Film camera. not a digital one.. When I told my sister I made a camera. She thought I Made a DSLR or something. haha! =P)

Vintage Outfits for the Gentlemen

(Pss, I would be doing a Vintage Outfits for the Ladies soon-ish)
More then often, I get questions like ‘what should I wear?’
Really, its really up to you.. So long you are comfty and happy, my camera will love you.

But if you must, I had complied a few items (Apart from the usual ties) for the gentlemen that I think will jazz up the look. Now of course Im no fashion guru, so believe me at your own risk!

#1 – Fedora
This is perharps a fav of my husband. No needs to mention how English it looks.
Oh added bonus is, it gives you something to hold and play with. Additional prop. Heh.

#2 – A flap Cap
Now Im not sure is this a proper name for it, but I had always love how preppy it look.

Photo taken from Here

#3 – Suspenders
The guys might not like it much, but hey its really quite cute right? There’s a certain boyish charm about Suspenders. 😀

#4 – Vests / Waistcoats
Our weather might be too hot for a suit (poor guy, having to wear a full suit under the baking sun.. is really to die for).
So a vest is a great substitute instead. Its gentleman-looking, cooling to wear. Why not?

There are some tiny bits that I am lazy to search around for (pictures I mean) and some that I can think off-hands would be..
Bow Ties
a Chain clock
Tweed Jackets

Now go play around with some items and jazz up that outfit!
(I would update when I come across somemore stuffs alright) 😀

Can’t help posting one more tiny peek of this wonderful couple.

I did a Poster..

I did a Poster (for the fun of it)..
But my site cant seem to support it. Gag!

> Click here  to view a Engagement shoot of ShiXian & Jas..
Oooh the fun part is you click +Hold, the picture enlarge. Hee.
(I might had overdone it slightly.. but it’s fun. The poster I mean.)

What Props to bring for photoshoot ?

Just a few days ago, I stumbled upon this forum thread discussing about what props to bring for photoshoots and I was pleasantly surprised to see Oh Dear’s photo popping up and the brides-to-be were saying how cool they think my shoots are. *BIG LOVE!*

Too often my couples are asking me for ideas what props to bring on a shoot.

The props might be secondary because the Love that is shared between a couple and their story is what makes the shoot unique and lovely. But some good o’props would turn a lovely shoot into something AWESOME and personalized. So preparing some to bring along is good, plus it gives you something to ‘play’ with so you won’t feel too awkward when faced with a mad-snapper (aka Me). Lol.

(This is by no means completed, just some suggestions. Feel free to add to the list by commenting at the end of the post). Here goes!

Balloons make LOVELY props. They are fun, happy, colorful and of course Float. It’s alright if you can’t get helium ones, blow your own balloons and scatter them around the meadow. Looks whimsical enough too.
Plus they come in lots of shapes and sizes, there are heart shapes, balloons with smiley face, balloons with messages, animal shapes etc. Endless fun.

Not only does a brolly makes beautiful props, they come in really handy as well. Shades you from the sun from the rain. Plus they are easy to find.

♥     ♥      ♥     ♥     ♥      ♥

Kids LOVE bubbles. Try blowing some around some kids, you become an instant celebrity. Heh. Well that aside, bubbles are fun, cheap and dreamy. Yay!

♥     ♥      ♥     ♥     ♥      ♥

FOOD!! Bring along cupcakes, cakes, candies, cokes, lollipops, pizzas, apples, peaches, chicken wings, whatever. You get to EAT them after everything, terribly practical.

♥     ♥      ♥     ♥     ♥      ♥

Unique and personalized. Most importantly, easy to make. Just type in Words, print them out and VOLIA! You can also handwrite them or draw. Easy peasy. Convery messages, dates, anniversaries, names.

♥     ♥      ♥     ♥     ♥      ♥

Dreamy dreamy. Don’t we just love musics? I do. Bring a lot instruments that you play (ok recorders are allowed). I play the gu-zheng. And I been DREAMING and DREAMING of shooting with a real piano set in the middle of a meadow. Ahhh…

#7 – PETS

Gonna love our furry kiddos. Bring along your mouse, your kitty, your puppy, your chick (Yes, I had a pet chicken before) your snake, your horse. Anything. Just no creepy crawlies thank you. Heh.

♥     ♥      ♥     ♥     ♥      ♥

Toys are happy and FUN. It can be your first ever doll and if its erm.. not available, bring along the first soft toy that your guy gave you. Cute.

♥     ♥      ♥     ♥     ♥      ♥

Can be bicycle as well. I dunno, they just channel a very 70s vibe to me. I like. I though they look so sweet. Don’t you?

♥     ♥      ♥     ♥     ♥      ♥

I saved the best for the last. VINTAGE CARS!! I LOVE vintage old cars. It’s the vibe they give. Every mile traveled, every bend turned, every scratches are all stories untold. Me and husband owe a 22yrs old car ourselves. Very attitude car, but we love it.

♥     ♥      ♥     ♥     ♥      ♥

And lastly, as a BONUS..

As the title, anything! Bring along photo frame / vintage suitcase / hat / shades. Or even your chair / mattress / books / board games.. ANYTHING. So long you’r not afraid the item might get abit dirty, then yeah!!

Save the Date Cards

Save the Date cards are very common in the States.
It’s basically a card that informs your relatives and friends that you are tying the knots and please.. well… Save the date.

But in Singapore where everything is so expensive, we tend to cut down on doing these and instead depends on Phone Calls/sms/email. But I think its such a lovely idea (if you are preparing for a small-scale wedding), to spread the message of Love and Happiness.. The traditional way – Snail mail!

You might even convert this into softcopy and email your friends or colleagues..

So for a limited period, I am offering FREE Save the Date Card Design for each Couple who sign up with me. Offer valid till end of April 2010.
Contact me if you’r keen! Hear from you soon…~

DIY bridal – Pearl & Crystal Bouquet + Boutonnieres

Here’s an instruction on how to DIY a Pearl & Crystal Bridal Bouquet (& Boutonnieres).
(I DIY-ed this pearl Bouquet for my wedding during dec09 and ‘wow’ alot of my guests. Hope its useful to the other brides-to-bes who might wanna try something different from the usual out-of-mill fresh flowers..)
What you will need:
– 10 packs of silver wiring (This really depends on how big you want your bouquet to be. I used up 8packs. Got mine from Chinatown GoldDragon)
– Handicraft Pearls (Again depends on how big you want your bouquet to be.)
– Handicraft Crystal Beads (This can be replaces with anything else you fancy. Say Diamontes or rhinestone works well too)
– White Silk Ribbons about 3cm thick (Thicker ribbons make it easier to wrap the stems of the bouquet)
– Charm (Optional, I used the Chinese Character ‘Xi’. but it can be anything, vintage rings, swans, more crystals. up to you.)

Step 1: Twist One pearl into One Wire (see drawing – Step1)

Step 2: Keep repeating step 1 untill you get desired size of bouquet.
Step 3: Bound all the wire+Pearls together (see drawing – Step2)

Step4: Tie all the wirings up with ribbon (I had approximately 200pearlwirings + -)
Its really easy to bunch them together to form this “round mushroom shape”.
What I did was to place them ALL together in a vase and hold them tightly together.
(The outter part would naturally bend down to form the round shape. Ahh Im bad in describing it, you have to Do it to understand what I meant)

I tied the whole bunch with rubber bands and string (to secure them you see) before going around the whole thing with a thick satin Ribbon.
As for the DIY Groom Boutonnieres
Its the same thing. Just snip off the wire to about 18cm and repeat Step1. This means that the boutonniere will be about 8cm. If you want a longer Boutonnieres, just snip off less of the wiring. Hope im making sense here.
Make about 12Pearl+Wiring and tie it up with ribbon
Trim the ends and Horray you are done!

(Updated: I’m really glad this DIY Crystal-Pearl Bridal Bouquet is such an inspiration to you brides-to-be out there.. Please do add photos of your completed bouquet Here at OhDear Fan Page! (I would LOVE to see!!) Maybe include some helpful tips to other Brides out there? ;D)

Inspiration – Tea Party Engagement Shoot

I spent my last weekend at KL, shooting some stuff when I came across this set up.
Smacked right there at the middle KLCC, with busy people walking right pass.

Oh dear! Its a TeaParty of Alice and MadHatter.
Completed with darling cupcakes, hot tea, soft scones and all. How sweet!!

And that sets me thinking, how about an Engagement Shoot in the theme of a TeaParty??
Won’t that be so whimsical? So delightful? Most importantly, different from the usual flower-holding-couples?

Sure its difficult to set up a table in the middle of a lawn, but the results would be OH SO GOOD!
Pss, you get to have a real tea party too..

I got back to Singapore, and did a search. See what I found..

Arent they the SWEETEST!? Such a dreamy shoot.. Of course we can modify it slightly, your groom doesnt have to be mad. He can be in a suit or vest. How romantic….

So have I convinced anyone?
